Institute Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) impart education though distance learning to learners in different manner. It is established by the University of Mumbai in 1971-72 as Directorate of Distance Education and in the year 1993, it was raised as ‘Institute of Distance Education’ and has been granted the status as a ‘University Institution’.

IDOL offers degree, technical and professional courses through distance learning mode. IDOL provide courses of B.A., B. Com., M.A., M.A. in Education, M. Com, M. Sc.in Mathematics, PGDFM, PGDORM, B.Sc. IT, B.Sc. in Computer Science, MSc. IT, MBA, M.Sc. in Computer Science, MCA and B.Sc. in Nautical Technology, all approved by Distance Education Council. The admission to the MCA distance education is based on the merit in the entrance test.
