The Master of Computer Applications (MCA) is a postgraduate degree in computer application streams awarded in India since 1982. Full time MCA programmes normally take three academic years. To meet the increasing demand of trained manpower in the field of computer applications, various universities in Pune have decided to launch 3 years post graduate MCA Programme. Course: MCA is a three year i.e. six semesters course approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). The selection is based on performance in the qualifying exam, written test and personal interview. It is a very practical program with 26 instructional courses and 14 practical ones each of 4 hours per week, spread over the first five semesters, and seminars and project work in the fifth and final semesters. During the sixth semester, students generally go to the industries and apply a real time project which is directly useful to the organization concerned. It should be kept in mind that it is going to be a rigorous three years of exhaustive theory and practical work, thus even before appearing for the entrance test, one should have had enough experience of computers, and a self-reliance that one can go deeper into the subject with ease.
Basic Qualification: In order to secure admission to first year of MCA course, the candidate should fulfill the following eligibility criteria; Candidate should be Indian national and should have passed with minimum of 45% marks in aggregate (40% in case of backward class category candidates belonging to Maharashtra state only) in any Bachelor’s degree of minimum three years duration in any discipline recognized by the Association of Indian Universities and having studied mathematics or statistics as one of the subjects at 10+2 level or higher level examination. Candidates who have appeared for the final year examination of any Bachelor’s degree of minimum three years duration in any discipline recognized by the Association of Indian Universities and having studied mathematics or statistics as one of the subjects at 10+2 level or higher level examination can also appear for Maharastra – MCA -CET 2007 but will have to complete the basic qualification as mentioned above i.e. passed with minimum of 45% marks in aggregate. (40% in case of backward class candidates from Maharashtra state only).
Maharashtra – Master of Computer Application - Common Entrance Test is conducted by Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra for admission to Master of Computer Applications course in Government, University Managed and Unaided Institutes of Maharashtra. Students from all over India can apply for MAH-CET. Outside Maharashtra students can take admission through AIMCET exam.
The Institute involved in the entrance exam holds the admission. The entrance Exam has always been the top notch entrance based test conducted on state level in order to hold final admission in the following course.
To apply for MAH-MCA-CET a candidate must have a bachelor’s degree with atleast 45% aggregate marks. Those in the final year of their graduation can also apply.

The application for MAH CET are available by February in the designated post offices across Maharashtra.

The Entrance exam will be divided into two parts of 1 hour each. First Paper will be in General Aptitutde and second will Computer Awareness. General Aptitude Paper will consist of Questions from the logical reasoning, quantitative reasoning, high school mathematics, vocabulary, English comprehension and verbal ability. There will also be negative marking of 1/4th marks.
