Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research conducts an entrance test for admission of students to its MBBS course.
Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research is situated in Puducherry. Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research is one of the oldest medical institutes in India. JIPMER was established in 1823 with the help of French Government as “Ecole de Medicine de Pondicherry”. It was overtaken by Government of India and subsequently it was renamed as Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research in1956.
JIPMER is managed by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Indian Government. JIPMER has 100 seats in its MBBS course and out of this admission to 82 seats is done through JIPMER entrance test. Admissions for rest 18 seats are done through nomination by Government of India and are selected by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi.
JIPMER admits 75 undergraduate students and 50 postgraduate students every year. The staff strength of the institute is about 3000. The teaching faculty consists of 300 experienced teachers and 565 resident doctors.

JIPMER 2012 Eligibility Criteria
(i) The Applicant should be n India Citizen.
(ii) The Applicant should have studied and completed their course in the schools located in India the preceding two years (except for those admitted against the seats reserved for foreign students nominated by the Government of India).
(iii) He / She must have attained 17 years of age at the time of admission
(iv) The applicants should have passed the qualifying examinations in the manner mentioned below:
a. The Higher / Senior Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination which is equivalent to 10+2 Higher / Senior Secondary Examination after a period of 12 years study, the last two years of such study comprising Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Botany and Zoology (which shall include practical tests in these subjects) and with English at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training after introduction of the 10+2+3 educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on Education and
b. Applicant must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology /Botany & Zoology with not less than 50% of marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Botany & Zoology at the qualifying examination. For Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe candidates, the minimum marks in the qualifying examination will be 40%.
c. The Candidates who have passed the qualifying examination other than those mentioned in the list appended in Annexure - I will have to submit an Eligibility Certificate from the JIPMER before admission is finalised. Obtaining such an Eligibility Certificate from the JIPMER is essential to foreign nationals nominated by the Central Government for admission to JIPMER M.B.B.S. Course.
JIPMER 2012 Application Procedure
(i)Applicants can obtain the application form cum prospectus from the counter of State Bank of India (SBI), JIPMER Campus only from 03 December, 2010 to 03 January, 2011 (4.00 p.m).
(ii)Applicants can also obtain the application forms and prospectus by sending Postal request to Professor Academic, JIPMER from 01 December, 2010 to 31 December, 2010 along with DD or original challan of account transfer as mentioned below. Two stickers with candidate’s address written legibly must also be enclosed for correct delivery of the Prospectus and Application Form.
(iii)Applicants can also submit the application forms Online through JIPMER website www.jipmer.edu.in from 01 December, 2010 to 31 December, 2010. Dully filled Online Applications with proof of payment must reach Professor Academic, JIPMER on or before 03 January, 2011 (5.00 p.m).
JIPMER will not be responsible for any delay, non receipt of Application Form, Hall Ticket or payment caused by the illegible or incomplete address or details or wrong data entry.
Modes of Payment for application can be one of the following:
By Cash : Prospectus – cum – Application Form are available on cash payment of 1,000/- (for SC / ST : 800/- at State Bank of India, JIPMER Campus Branch only.
By Demand Draft : Applicants wanting to obtain the Prospectus and the Preprinted application Form by post will have to either send a M.I.C.R Crossed Demand Draft drawn in favour of “Accounts Officer, JIPMER” payable at Pondicherry (Union Territory) or attach the original challan as proof of their Account Transfer for the above prescribed amount.

Bank charges for such a mode of payment are to be borne additionally by the applicant only. For those with SBI account, the SBI Journal Number must be noted in the original challan enclosed.

JIPMER 2012 Examination Pattern
The medium of Instruction is English and the concept of negative marking does not applicable in this exam. The examination consists of 200 multiple choice objective questions each questions carrying 1 mark per question that are covered form subjects like Physics (40 questions), Chemistry (40 questions), Botany (40 questions), Zoology (40 questions) and English (40 questions) and total duration 150 minutes. The evaluation method is completely done by computer. The questions for JIPMER MBBS Entrance Examination 2012 will be based on the syllabus for XI & XII Standard as prescribed by State Board Hr. Sec. and CBSE. More than one answer indicated against a question, will be deemed as incorrect response and no mark will be given. There is no Negative Marking.
