Eligibility Requirements for M. Tech in IIT Kanpur

The eligibility conditions given below are the absolute minimum. Departments may prescribe any requirements over and above these.

The specified minimum' marks/CPI (Cumulative Performance Index), referred to in subsequent sections, implies a minimum of 55 percent marks /5.5 (on a 10 point scale) as long as it is not less than the minimum pass marks/CPI; otherwise, the 'specified minimum' marks/CPI implies the minimum pass marks/CPI.

M.Tech.: A Bachelor's degree in engineering or Master's degree in science with marks/CPI not below the prescribed minimum. Valid GATE score is required for financial assistance.

B.Tech. : Graduates from IITs with a minimum overall CGPA of 6.5 and a minimum CGPA of 8.0 during the last two semesters in B.Tech., may also apply without a GATE score (such candidates will, however, be not entitled for Institute Assistantship if CGPA is below 8.0). For M.Tech in Biological Sciences and Bioengineering, candidates with MBBS, or B.Pharma Degree may also be considered.

Admission Procedure & Cutoff for Computer Science & Engineering

Some candidates with lower GATE score but with other achievements such as publications, industrial experience of at least two years may also be invited for the interview and written test. The written test consists of questions from basic computer science courses as well as some questions to test the analytical abilities and aptitude of the candidate.
It is emphasized that the Gate cutoffs for each year are determined based on the number of applications that we receive and vary from year to year.
