Mayo Clinic Researchers Find Math Learning Disorder Is Common - ScienceDaily (Oct. 27, 2005) — ROCHESTER, Minn. -- In a recently published study, Mayo Clinic researchers determined Math Learning Disorder (LD) is common among school-age children. Results show that boys are more likely to have Math LD than girls. The research also indicates that although a child can have a Math LD and a reading LD, a substantial percentage of children have Math LD alone. In fact, the cumulative incidence of Math LD through age 19 ranges from 6% to as high as 14%, depending on the Math LD definition. LD is used to describe the seemingly unexplained difficulty a person of at least average intelligence has in acquiring basic academic skills -- skills that are essential for success at school, work and for coping with life in general. The results appear in the September-October issue of Ambulatory Pediatrics. The research revealed that many of the clichéd perceptions which it identified are linked to the way in which mathematics and mathematicians are presented in popular culture. Although there has been an increase since 2006, the number of people in England and Wales choosing to study maths has been in decline in the last decade. The subjec....

Question : how can it help us in our daily life and what will you learn from these math games.
Answer : Math is problem solving. Some problems require us to thinking sequentially, deductively, and in an organized manner. Very few of us can do that mentally consistently. So it helps if we can 'visualize' the solution. Math manipulatives and math games are useful in that way. Sometimes working our hands helps us to not only solve the present problem, but allows us to 'think out of the box' to find a new solution.
