Global warming is only one among many intensely debated topics. Answer : My wife recently took a very similar course, and for a very similar reason. What little math was involved was just 9th-grade algebra, and its purpose was to impart a basic understanding of physical principles, not to develop problem-solving skills. She did have to solve a few problems, but none of them were tricky like the ones my engineering students have to do, so she rarely had to swallow her pride and ask me for help. :-P A few examples of the concepts might be: (1) what are Newton's laws of motion, and how do they explain what we observe in the real world? (2) what are the forces involved in circular motion, and how are they affected by the speed and radius of travel? (3) what are work and energy (potential and kinetic), and how are they conserved? Answer : I felt intro to Physics was very easy. It required no lab work really and it was simple. What are the prereqs into the two courses? If its anyting higher than Algebra then dont take that class.
