Made of plastic and coated metals... these will not dissolve easily Styrofoam... The worst as far as many are concerned... does not break down nearly hundreds of years. Cans ... Tin will not break down easily. Glass This takes a long time to dissolve as well.

Question : I was wondering why we do not dump our non-biodegradable waste such as plastics, tyres, etc... into active volcanoes. This way it'll be geolically recycled to become part of the natural Earth formation processes once again. Can anyone think why this would be a bad idea?

Answer : First, there is a lot of non-biodegradable wastes which can be recycled. Newer technologies and entrepreneurs are finding ways to do this. Second, I'm afraid there is a lot of waste which could become harmful when thrown into an active volcano. Such as fumes; those fumes will go into the atmosphere more quickly than they would if they were in a landfill or melted down in a factory where the fumes can be buffered out of the air. Another reason why that isn't being explored, is because it would extremely expensive and dangerous to establish a system which can safely dump the waste into the volcano. Plus, there is no secure way of telling when it would erupt and destroy that equipment. It's not a bad idea...but we just need to think about it more.
