Question : Okay, so I am in Year 10 and have just been doing the basic science this year as we go on to do our additional stuff next year I think.
So I've done three papers,
1a Physics [and then I did a re-take]
And I still have two Chemistry and one Physics left to go, which I'm taking on the 22nd June.
What are the grade boundaries? Because I am pretty sure that the exams are out of 36 as there are only 36 questions? 4 a,b,c,d x 9 quesions = 36 marks total?
For my Physic..
Answer : All the module exams are out of 36, but the exam board does a calculation to give you a UMS mark when you do the proper exams which is out of 50. The way they do it is look at everyones mark then look at how hard the test was. Then they work out the grade boundaries.
Before its converted, i.e. the raw mark grade boundaries are usually:
31 - 36 A*
28 - 30 A
25 - 27 B
22 - 24 C
19 - 21 D
Question : Hello, does anyone have any idea about translations between the US grading system and the Irish grading system? This is what it says under the requirement section.
'A minimum grade of C3 in two Higher Level papers in the Leaving Certificate (or equivalent), together with at least a grade D3 in four Ordinary Level papers in the following subjects:
* English or Irish
* Mathematics (not Foundation level)
* A Laboratory Science subject (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Physics & Chem..
Answer : What you ask is not possible as the bases of the two systems are so different. The US does not have the same kind of national, subject specific exams that Ireland does. If you are an American looking to study in Ireland, contact the university and ask them what they will accept based on your schooling.
