Discovery Of Microbe In Roundworm Provides Animal Model For 'Emerging .. - ScienceDaily (Dec. 9, 2008) — An international team of biologists has discovered a new species of microsporidia, a single-celled parasite of animals, in a roundworm used in genetic laboratories around the world. See also: Plants & Animals New Species Biology Nature Earth & Climate Exotic Species Environmental Policy Rainforests Reference Protozoa Roundworm Zebrafish Hookworm The discovery is a breakthrough for public health researchers who until now had been looking for a suitable laboratory model in which to study microsporidia—a class of emerging pathogens that can cause significant illness in humans. “Microsporidia are classified as ‘priority pathogens’ by the National Institutes of Health, since they have been found in water supplies and because no drugs are available for treating the most common infections they cause in humans,” said Emily Troemel, an assistant professor of biology at UC San Diego and the first author of the study. “The new species we discovered, whi....

Biology models topics for class 9 Questions & Answers

Question : i am in 9th class and i have participted in science exhibition and i want to make a working model so please give me some suitable topics related to my project and kindly please give some website related to it. u can contact me on mht_mshr@yahoo.com working model is something which works like producing electricity from wind, water etc...

Answer : try this site http://www.all-science-fair-projects.com/ for electronics project try http://www.electronicsforu.com/electronicsforu/lab/

Question : ok, AP does something when u go to college like u dont have to take let's say biology for a year and what abt honors bio? i know the people will look if u took an honors class but will it effect the ammount or time u will take it again in college? or will u just have to take the class in college like how academic bio students will?

Answer : Ok so this is how it works. AP Classes are college level classes that are suppose to be equivalent to the corresponding college class. Depending on how you perform on your AP tests, the college will consider you as have taken the core biology class (so you can save some time and go to more in-depth material quicker). The typical passing scores or suggested from my experience that will allow you to gain this privilege are scores of 4 or 5. Honors classes are not college level classes, but rather the faster paced high school classes that provide you knowledge of fundamental concepts of the topic. Although they might not be as hard as AP classes, I suggest (if your school offers) take the honors class and then the following AP class. Example: Honors Chemistry - Sophomore year, AP Chem - Junior Year. It helps conceptually and you'll probably do better on the AP test. Hope this helps!

Question : I am leading a lab in my Advanced Bio class (I'm a senior in high school). I wanted to try to do something other than the 12 standard AP Bio labs. It would be good if it could be done in a class of 20 students . If you don't have an idea, can you think of an interesting topic that I could search for an experiment on?

Answer : I think the molecular biology and biotechnology labs would be pretty interesting. What we did in our IB Biology 1 class was take E. Coli and introduced a gene from a jelly fish to it using an ampicillin-resistant plasmid. What we got were petri dishes with little colonies of fluorescent E. coli. However, i'm not sure you will be able to pay for this; our school had a subsidy from UC Davis for like 10000 dollars of biotechnology lab materials.
