Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is an all India entrance examination conducted by 11 National Law Universities for admissions to their under-graduate and post-graduate degree programme (LL.B & LL.M).

According to MoU (Memorandum of Understanding), each year CLAT would be conducted by each of national Law Schools on rotation as per the criterion of seniority. Candidates who are seeking admission to the Under Graduate (LLB) and Post Graduate (LLM) Courses in the below mentioned Law schools must appear in Common Law Admission Test (CLAT).

The admission is based on candidate’s rank in the entrance examination.

CLAT 2011 Eligibility Criteria

Undergraduate Programme (LLB):

Candidate should have cleared the Higher Secondary School / Intermediate Examination (10+2) or its equivalent with minimum 50% marks in the aggregate for general candidate and 45% marks for SC/ST/OBC and Persons with Disability candidates.
Candidates taking qualifying examination at the year of admission are also eligible to apply.
General and OBC Candidates must be less than 20 years of age and SC/ST and Persons with Disability must less than 22 years of age as on 1st July, of the year of admission.

Postgraduate Programme (LLM):

To be eligible for graduate programs

Candidates should have secured a LL.B. degree or its equivalent from a recognized University, having obtained minimum 55% marks in the aggregate. (50% marks in case of SC/ST/OBC & Persons with Disability)
Candidates in the final year of their LL.B. course can also apply but their admission would be confirmed only after they submit LL.B. results with the required 50% marks in aggregate.

Note: Post-Graduate Programme is not offered in NLU (National Law University), Jodhpur

CLAT 2011 Application Procedure

Application Forms along with CLAT Information Brochure will be available at the specified branches of the State Bank of India, and also from the Law Universities mentioned above against cash payment of Rs. 2,500/- only (Rs. 2,000/- in case of SC/ST on proof) inclusive of test fee and bank charges. Downloaded and duly filled in Application Form with other required attachments along with a Demand Draft should be submitted to the Convener, CLAT at above mentioned address.
Incomplete application form will be rejected and application fee is non refundable

CLAT 2011 Examination Pattern

CLAT for LLB and LLM is conducted every year in the month of May.

The test will be of 2 hours duration and carries a total of 200 marks. There is no negative marking for wrong answers and the paper contains objective type of short answer questions of a standard expected of 10+2 students with the following break up of marks.

CLAT Examination Structure for undergraduate programme:

This test is divided in to five sections.

English (including Comprehension) 40 Questions (Each carries 1 mark)

General Knowledge / Current Affairs 10 Questions (Each carries 5 mark)

Elementary Mathematics 20 Questions (Each Carries 1 Mark)

Legal Aptitude and Reasoning 45 Questions (Each carries 1 Mark)

Logical Reasoning 45 Questions (Each Carries 1 Mark)

CLAT Test paper pattern for Postgraduate Programme:

Total Marks: 200

Subject details: Law of Contracts, Law of Torts, Family Law, Criminal Law, Constitutional Law and Legal Theory

Total number of questions:

Objective Type: 50 questions of one mark each

Short answers: 10 questions of five marks each

Essay: Two questions of 50 marks each

CLAT 2011 Important Dates

Issue of application forms from all CLAT -2011 participating universities and specified branches of Indian Post Offices from: 11 January, 2011 (Tuesday)
Last Date for submission of filled-in entrance examination application forms – 2 April 2011 (Saturday)
Issue of Hall Tickets to the candidates from – 12 April, 2011 (Tuesday)
Date of Admissions test for UG/PG – 15 May 2011(Sunday) (3.00 P.M. – 5.00 P.M)
Publication of result – 28 May 2011 (Saturday)
Completion of admission process – 28 June, 2011 (Tuesday)
Last date of acceptance and confirmation of interest in admission by depositing money in bank – To be notified later
Commencement of classes – 1 July, 2011 (Friday)
