About Annamalai University
Annamalai University is a state university in Annamalai Nagar in the state of Tamil Nadu. Annamalai University offers courses of higher education in the arts and sciences. Annamalai University provides around 380 courses under distance mode. The Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) aims at imparting education to those people who are unable to attend the campus but who desire to study. Annamalai University has 48 departments and over 2500 teaching staff. Annamalai University holds the record for most students studied through the postal route.
Annamalai University Directorate of Distance Education
The Directorate of Distance Education offers 401 different programmes of study under the Regular Stream. The Directorate is credited with the largest enrolment in India and is equipped with computer and other infrastructure, adequate teaching faculty and administrative set-up of its own, study centres, and computer training centres to serve its students' clientele in their best interest at their door steps.
The Directorate of Distance Education has also the unique distinction of offering first in India, Postgraduate Degree Programmes in Applied Psychology, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Bioinformatics and Law through Distance Education mode. It is also offering the Programmes on Fashion Design, Textile Design, Interior Design, Hotel Management and Catering Technology Programmes, Retail Management, Twinning Programme, Programmes on Health Science, Commonwealth Youth Programme, Yoga, Music, Fire and Safety, Pharmaceutical and Taxation Programmes.
All the programmes of study offered by the Directorate of Distance Education are approved by the Distance Education Council in New Delhi. The Directorate is also introducing B.Ed. Programme through distance education mode from the year 2008-09 with the approval of National Council for Teacher Education, New Delhi.

Tuition Fee and Other Charges
Compulsory Personal Contact Programme
The Directorate will organize the compulsory Personal Contact Programmes with a duration of four days each at different centres for the benefit of students. Students have to attend a minimum of two Personal Contact Programmes (four days continuously for each Programme) in each academic year. Attendance certificate will be issued to the students at the end of each programme. If students take with them the recommended text books and the printed lessons received from the Directorate, they will find the Personal Contact Programmes immensely useful. Advance intimation of the dates of the Personal Contact Programmes will be given to the students so that they can make arrangements for their board and lodging.
If sufficient number of students are not available for a Programme at a particular zone, the Personal Contact Programme will not be conducted there and the students should attend the PCP at the zone fixed by the Directorate.
In genuine cases, change of PCP centre will be permitted by the Directorate on payment of Rs. 300/- towards the change of centre fee. However, their choice cannot be claimed as a matter of right. Students whose PCP attendance certificate is lost can get a duplicate certificate on requisition along with a demand draft for Rs. 100/-.
Students who fail to satisfy the minimum requirement of attendance will be permitted to attend the programmes in the subsequent years on requisition with a fee of Rs. 300/-.
Those, who fail to produce two spells of Personal Contact Programme attendance certificates are not eligible to sit for the examination. If any one takes up the examination without attending the Compulsory Personal Contact Programme, the result of the examination shall be cancelled.
The directorate reserves the right to fix, shift or cancel the PCP centre.
The Application Form with Prospectus can be obtained (i) in person from the Directorate or any of its Study Centres or Information Centres on payment of the Application Fee of Rs. 250/- by cash or (ii) through post, on sending a requisition specifying the Programme to the Director, Directorate of Distance Education, Annamalai University, Annamalai Nagar - 608 002 along with a Demand Draft for Rs. 290/- drawn in favour of The Director, D.D.E., Annamalai University. The Application Form will be sent by ordinary post. An Application form once issued will not be taken back. The application form is not transferable and the application for admission should be in the prescribed form of the year 2010-2011 issued by the Directorate or its Study Centres/ Information Centres. The last date for receipt of the completed Applications in the Directorate is 03.09.2010.
