Formation of seasons

Two features combine to cause change of seasons : the revolution of earth around the sun and the inclination of earth's axis at 66 1/2% to the planet of its orbit, always pointing towards the same direction. This causes the sun's rays to fall perpendicularly or slantingly to the different parts of the earth at different positions in its orbit round the sun. As the days are longer in one hemisphere compared to the other hemisphere , there is summer and winter respectively, in the two hemispheres. When the earth completes half of its orbit, the positions are reversed and so are the seasons in the two hemispheres.
