English and Foreign Languages University or EFL University is located in Hyderabad. EFL University was formerly known as CIEFL. The university was set up in 1958 as the Central Institute of English or CIE to train teachers of English. In 1972, the institute included major foreign languages and was renamed the Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages or CIEFL. UGC gave CIEFL the status of a deemed university in July 1973. CIEFL became English and Foreign Languages University or EFL on 2007. Building upon the achievements of CIEFL, the EFL University expanded its activities on the national and global stage.
EFL is a central University based in Hyderabad, India. The EFLU offers services such as study of English and foreign languages and their literatures, organisation of research, training of teachers, production of teaching materials, and extension services, to help improve the standards of the teaching of English and Foreign Languages in India. The University currently offers academic programmes in English, Arabic, French, German, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Persian, Turkish, Italian, Chinese, Korean, and Hindi.

All reservations (SC,ST,OBC,Wards of Defence Personnel, Displaced Kashmiri Migrants, Persons with Different Abilities) are as per GOI/UGC rules.
Fellowships & Scholarships:
All M.Phil and Ph.D. scholars of the University are eligible for Non-NET fellowships if they do not get UGC JRFs (Rs 3000 p.m. for M.Phil and Rs 5000 for Ph.D. contingency grant of Rs 8000 per annum. In addition, economically backward students will be eligible for stipends, tuition fee exemption and book allowance.
How to Apply:
Application forms can be obtained from the Publications Unit, The EFL University, Hyderabad 500007 on payment of Rs 520 (Rs 260 for SC/ST/Persons with Different Abilities on production of proof) in cash or in the form of a DD drawn in favour of Registrar, EFL University payable at Hyderabad. Write “Request for Application” on envelope and specify Programme of Study. Applications for distance mode programmes can be had from Dean, School of Distance Education, EFL University, Hyderabad by paying a DD for the same amounts.
Application forms can also be downloaded from the University website. Details relating to eligibility, fee structure and other details are also available on the website. Such downloaded forms, when filled in and submitted, should be accompanied by a demand draft for Rs 520 (Rs 260 in the case of SC/ST/Persons with Different Disabilities). Please also attach two passport size colour photographs to your applications with your name on the reverse of the photographs. All filled in application forms (printed or downloaded) should be accompanied by two self-addressed stamped (Rs 5) envelopes (9” x 4” size) and sent to Controller of Examinations, EFL University, Hyderabad 50007.
Separate application forms have to be submitted for each programme and for each Campus. Candidates applying for more than one programme may obtain additional forms by paying Rs 70 for each form. They are not transferable.
Forms are also available in Lucknow and Shillong Campuses.
