APSC
Assam Public Service Commission established on Ist April, 1937 in accordance with the provision of the Govt. of India Act, 1935. First chairman of APSC was Shri Kameswar Das. After independence APSC was reframed by government of Assam and on Ist September 1951 new regulation of APSC was declared. Currently the chairman of Assam Public Service Commission is Dr. (Mrs.) Geeta Basumatari and other members of APSC are Shri Rakhal Ch Hari, Md. Shirazul Hussain Saikia, Shri Bhupendra Nath Das, Shri Rakesh Kumar Paul, Dr. Sashadhar Nath Examination conducted by APSC Assam Public Service Commission conduct the Combined Competitive Examination by APSC.
Examinations
The following Examinations are conducted by the APSC:
- Combined Competitive Examination
- Departmental Examinations
Combined Competitive Examination
As per requisition of the Govt. of Assam for recruitment in various posts to the Civil Services, advertisement is generally published through print media inviting applications in prescribed form. The written examination consists of two stages:
- The Preliminary
- The Main Examination
Preliminary Examination
The examination consists of two papers of two hours duration each. This examination is meant to serve as screening test only. The marks obtained in the preliminary examination by the candidates who are declared qualified for admission to Main examination are not counted for determining the final selection. The questions are of multiple choice objective types:

Main Examination and Interview
The Main Examination consists of a written Examination and a viva-voce test as below:
Candidates who are declared qualified in the Main Examination shall be summoned for a viva-voce test. The viva-voce test carries 200 marks with no qualifying marks.
The written examination consists of the following papers of 3 hours duration each. The questions of the Main Examination will be conventional essay type:

Departmental Examinations
The APSC also has to conduct Departmental Examinations in every six month for different categories of Govt. officers including All India Service Officers serving under the Govt. of Assam. For this purpose, APSC advertises seeking applications from the intending candidates through all leading news papers of Assam.
Reservation
The percentage of reservations as prescribed by the Govt. of Assam are as follows:
